Hello! My name is Lauren and I've just joined the Mosaic Of Thought Listserv. I've recently graduated college and have started my graduate study in Childhood and Special Education. I'm currently taking a Methods of Literacy Class and one of our texts is Reading with Meaning. I think Debbie Miller offers great advice, especially for new teachers. Although I am not teaching just yet I'm trying to gather as much information as possible so I am better equipped in the classroom. Throughout RWM, Debbie discusses keeping track of her students with small notebooks. I was wondering if anyone could offer any other suggestions on ways to evaluate and assess students on a daily basis? I also am wondering how she fits in the other important subjects during the day as it appears her entire classroom is dedicated to reading. Does anyone have any suggestions as how they learned to balance the time between teaching reading as well as incorporate math, science, social studies etc in the classroom?
