And to the two notes I would also add - include the nursery rhymes - lots and lots of nursery rhymes and nursery songs. let the kids be the characters as they 're-read' and retell the rhymes! How can they 'hear rhyme' if they don't sing, dance, and retell the poetry embedded in nursery rhymes.
