Hello Everyone and Happy Summer!

I have been a special education teacher for 22 years. In September, I
will be a first time second grade teacher. I am very excited about this new
endeavor. It has re-energized me and I feel like a brand-new teacher. I
have been doing comprehension strategies for several years now, as a push-in
support teacher and have collaborated with the general education teachers
on many occasions.

My question is this: I know that I am going to have some top-notch
readers coming into second grade who can also comprehend (fifth-sixth grade).
I
am wondering if anyone has suggestions as to the best way to find reading
material that is at the appropriate reading level of the student but is also
at their maturity level. I would appreciate authors, titles, series, etc.

Thank you for your help!

Sincerely,
Denise Glowaski
