Kim,

You are so right!! The benefits of being read to at a very young age are
plentiful! I got my masters in reading right away after undergraduate
school, and because there were no teaching jobs in NYC at that time, once I had

my kids I stayed at home with them for a very long time. I can tell you
those two had the best preschool education and a personal library that
couldn't be beat! I read to them constantly! They absolutely loved it and
became
avid readers, as a result. They are excellent writers, and my daughter's
career is based upon her excellent literacy skills! So, I can attest on a
very personal basis that the earlier and more often a child is read to, the
better s/he will be!!

And it is a perfect way to introduce our darlings to a wide variety of
stories, print, text, etc. We get to show kids how to react and think to
reading all while enjoying it just for a relaxing time. The modeling during
this time is so important and can be so purposeful. If read aloud time gets
missed, we are lost until we do double the next day.
