We just finished with Reading First and had Independent Reading as a work station. We called it response to reading. There was free choice in reading, content area stations with lots of books on particular topics, and the students did a simple response. The Tony Stead book Good Choice is excellent for Independent Reading. The poetry story sounds ridiculous. I hear all kinds of weird stories about Reading First. Our grant is up so we are taking the best of RF and moving ahead with it. Your school sounds like it is doing overkill with RF Jeanne
