This is from the book Words Their Way.
Homework
Mon. Sort your words like we did in school and explain the sort to your
parents, then sort the words as fast as you can.
Tues. Do a buddy sort with a parent.  Lay down a word for each catagory header,
have your parent read the word aloud and point to the correct sort without
seeing the word.  Then, look at the word and move it to the correct catagory.
Repeat if you make more than one error.
Wed.  Word hunt~find words from a familiar book that have the same sound,
pattern or both.  Try to find two or three from each catagory.
Thurs.  Complete a writing sort to prepare for the test.  The parent
should call out the words in random order and the child should write the word
in the catagories.

I only give the students ten words for the test, although they usually have
between 15 and 20 on their list.  Students earn one point for spelling and one
point for the correct sort.  I then give one word that follows the pattern, but
that was not on the list, for a bonus point.  This lets me know if the student
is able to apply the spelling patterns they have learned.
