Thank you Sally and Jan for the input. You’ve given several things for me
to think about and the reading logs thread has been helpful too.

Sally - I hadn’t heard of Atwell or Sibberson; but I checked and the
university library in town has a few of their books which I’ll check out. The
reading dialog letters sound like a good plan which I can apply to my
younger children as well.

I was already thinking of doing some shorter works for literature this year
and interspersing them with longer works, but maybe I’ll do as you suggest
and have longer works going concurrently and use the shorter ones for
teaching times.

I’m not sure what the formulaic approach to literature circles is, but I’m
starting to get a feel for the literature circles idea from the Tovani
books. I may experiment with multi-age literature discussions this summer.

Jan- Thanks for telling me about the grades taught for the teachers on this
list. In addition to the 12th grader I’ll have PreK, K, 2nd,4th,6th, and 8
th so I’m reading great tips for my younger ones.

I think I need to think through what my goals are and which kind of reading
responses will meet each goal.

Kendall
