Happy September Everyone, I'm in a kindergarten classroom this year. One of my students is selectively mute. I've found some excellent blogs and books to help me understand her needs, but I'm not sure how to assess her as a reader. I've been asking her to point to the word / letter-that-makes-the-sound, but I'd be very interested in other assessment methods. Has anyone else experienced this in the pre-primer group? Did your student become comfortable speaking to you? If so, how long did it take? If you've had a lot of experience in this area, please email me directly at [email protected].
