The Eurasian Collared-Doves which previously have been reported in the town of Perham in northern Otter Tail County are back in business this spring. We saw at least three actively flitting around, loudly vocalizing their repetitious three-part chant, and generally looking amorous/territorial. We were able to position ourselves under one to see what appeared to be the correct undertail configuration. However, the local flock notably seems to come in two shades -- pale gray and paleR gray; possible hybrids?

At any rate, they are easily seen in and around Jean's The Right Plant Place (420 3rd Ave SE) and nearby Jerome's Antiques, especially in the mature conifers behind Jean's and on the the power lines between Jean's and Jerome's.

Other notables seen in the last few days: Blue-winged Teal, many Hooded and Common Mergansers, Common Loon, Great Egret, Cooper's, Sharp-shinned, and Rough-legged Hawks, and Herring Gull.

Still lots of snow here and very little open water. A friend says: Spring -- just like Winter but with more snow.
