Nathan had a Least Bittern calling yesterday evening on Mille Lacs CR 5/13
in a pond on the west side of the road, about a half mile south of the
Lutheran Church. An additional landmark is the house for sale by Restaino
that is just across the street from the pond.
Of course, needing this bird for the county, I missed it early this morning.
Refound the Olive-sided Flycatcher at Kunkel WMA this morning - has been
there for ~20 days - wonder if there is a nesting attempt coming in this
marshy, but not "boggy" area. Other good finds there for Mille Lacs County
were Grasshopper/Field Sparrows, and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers - all unusual
for the county, but consistently at this "just above the Sherburne County
line" area.
Good birding to all.

PS For those coming on the MOU Aitkin trip Saturday, we will meet at the
Rice Lake Refuge parking lot at 7:30 AM and carpool together. The plan
(always subject to change) is to bird the refuge from 7:30-10:00, move north
to CR 18 from 10:30-12:00, have lunch at McGregor Subway, then hit selected
spots in the afternoon - potentially including the recently posted Summer
Tanager feeders.
