I read everyone's postings and followed the advice of many and I now created my own excel checklist format! I now have created several lists and again thanks to everyone who responded your input was very much appreciated. OK .. other than use "X" next to a bird species..I am interested in learning how to use color fill cells rather than X's BUT from what I seen from doing some googling.. its complicated.
