On Saturday we had Yellow-rumps and Ruby-crowned Kinglets in the yard; on Sunday: a Mourning Cloak Butterfly.
On Sunday, I headed down to Redwing and was grateful to find a very cooperative Brown Pelican. From there I headed out to Lake Bylessby, where I found a large flock of Pelicans and hundreds of shorebirds. Most were too far to sort out, although I did see yellowlegs and Pectorals in that flock. A small closer flock was primerily Pectoral Sandpipers, but included both yellowlegs, a few Killdeer, and two Dunlins, still in winter plumage. I headed down to Frontenac and ran my frog & toad survey route. For the most of my stops the wetlands were dry and frogs were not calling. I did find one stop with good numbers of Northern Leopard Frogs, but no Chorus Frogs, which I have heard all over in the Metro, and almost no Spring Peepers. By the time I got to the Spring Peeper meadow, the temperature had dropped to just above freezing, which was probably more important than the dryness. -- Steve Weston On Quiggley Lake, Eagan, MN [email protected] ---- Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
