It's easy to overlook blessings in the quest for the unusual. Today on Sherburne NWR's Blue Hill Trail I've enjoyed:
Cerulean Warbler (across from initial conifer's entrance, be aware that the "up" part of his song is weak) Mourning Warbler (great teed up views after first left turn, west side of trail) Dickcissels (across from parking lot) Black Squirrel (Mirkwood escapee) Ruffed Grouse (exploding in pines) Golden & Blue-winged Warblers and hybrid And I'm only half-way through the first trail loop, looking at "common" Trumpeter Swans and Black Terns. What a blessing to live in this area, even during non-migration. In Madison, WI this weekend for a wedding, enjoyed first Yellow-throated Warbler in ten years (still need confirmed one in MN, brief look on one occasion could have been Audubon's). Good birding to all & sundry.
