On December 4th I was out guiding four birders from Georgia in Lake County.  I
made a decision to look for Spruce Grouse early in the morning along the Stoney
River Forest Road and then look for them along the Whyte Road off the SRFR and
then head back to Highway 1 driving on the Snake Trail Road.  All these roads
are not maintained by the county during the winter months and if there is any
logging activity in this area and if they are using these roads then the
logging company typically with keep these roads open for the logging trucks.
We did not observe any logging trucks nor did we observe any logging in the
areas we were traveling on.  The road conditions on the Stoney River Road are
fair and the Whyte Road is in fair conditions as well but the Snake Trail Rd is
in poor shape for driving.  As mentioned before on a previous post by Sparky
that the Stoney River Forest Road is closed about 6 miles south of Highway 1
and is currently drivable from
FR 11 to the wash out bridge (13 miles or so )  How long this road will stay
open is any ones guess.  It all depends on how much snow they get up there and
if anyone will be plowing it out or not.

Highlights:

- Spruce Grouse found on the Whyte Road about 5 miles off SRFR.
- Spruce Grouse found on Highway 1 in the Greenwood Lake Area.
- White-winged Crossbills on the Whyte Road.

Two Harbors:
- Red-bellied Woodpecker in the alley below 4th Ave between 3rd St and 2nd St.

- Red Crossbills in the alley below 4th Ave between 3rd St and 2nd St.
- Buffleheads (3) seen in Agate Bay.
