My waterfowl count was up this morning at Rapids Lake MVNWR. All waterfowl
are being seen in the ever-growing areas of open water in the Minnesota River
besides any migrating flocks. Most have been in the river though. Eagle were
keeping the waterfowl quite skittish. Rapids Lake is nowhere close to being
open and as long as overnight temperatures continue to get to around 20 degree,
it won't be opening soon. Should the Minnesota River reach a high enough
level when it floods, then that will clear the ice off the lake. Trail
conditions along the river are fair at best with solid packed snow and ice
still covering most of the trail. I prefer that to the mud which will be
coming soon.

Select count(tough to get exact counts with the skittish birds)
