I am writing to you regarding the proposed Sandpiper pipeline. Enbridge Energy (North Dakota Pipeline Company) filed their application for a Certificate of Need and Routing Permit with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission to build the Sandpiper pipeline, to carry fracked crude oil from western North Dakota to a refinery in Superior, Wisconsin. From Superior, the oil is destined for refineries in eastern Canada or the US, via a proposal to ship it by barge on the Great Lakes, or through pipelines leading to eastern markets, or to the Gulf of Mexico. The pipeline will place at risk over 600 miles of forest, prairie, and aquatic ecosystems, and hundreds of acres of farmland, across northern Minnesota. The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) will be holding a public meeting on Thursday, March 13, at the Carlton County Transportation Building, 1630 County Road 61, Carlton, MN from 6-9 pm for concerned citizens to learn more about the route location and alternatives, or provide comment on the proposed route. They can provide either verbal or written testimony on the proposed route. I am asking for your group member’s presence at this meeting to send a strong message to the PUC urging them to route the Sandpiper pipeline in existing rights-of-way, or to eventually deny the Certificate of Need. If you or your members are unable to attend on the 13th, your comments on this project can still be submitted to: >>> >>>Dr. Burl Haar, Executive Secretary >>>Minnesota Public Utilities Commission >>>121 - 7th Place East, Suite 350 >>>Saint Paul, MN 55101-2147 >>> >>>Or you may email written testimony to: >>> >>>[email protected] >>>All comments must be received by the PUC by 4:30 on April 4th, 2014. >>> Thank you for your support.
