Hi,

I called the number for Knopf's customer service given in a previous message
and spoke with a nice lady there. When I explained about the "replacement"
offer, I was told that there was no such offer. I went on to explain about the
MOU messages in which some callers had met with success and was told that the
books belonging to those callers were deemed to be defective and that's why
they were being sent new copies. When I went on to explain about the font and
color problems with the first printing, I was told that those weren't defects.
Rather, they were choices made by the author and publisher. Thus, such issues
didn't qualify for a replacement copy. She said they were still taking
feedback regarding the books, however, and would be making note of my comments.
I cited the dark, maroon Scarlet Tanager as one example of a color problem and
went on to explain that it should have been bright red, as well as the text
problems. I told her I was not pleased with the copy. She said she was sorry
but there was nothing she could do. So, those who are going to receive new
copies are VERY lucky. Everyone else who was denied a new copy will either
have to go with another guide or pay more for a 2nd printing. I was happy with
my first edition Sibley, but I'm not sure I want to give him any more money.

Best wishes,
Tim
