I'm not trying to get into a fight, believe me. Your point about the wrapper is the clincher and so I support what you are saying. I still think that (and indeed you script may do this) it is a good idea to make as much of the page xml compliant as possible purely to make future updates easier but to stick to an HTML 4.01 Strict DOCTYPE for the time being.
