Martin.Netscape invented the plugin specification when there was no such thing
as the OBJECT tag. Instead Netscape Navigator 3.x and 4.x used the EMBED
tag which is an HTML 3.2 standard tag but was deprecated by the OBJECT
tag in HTML 4.0.
No it isn't. EMBED has never been in any HTML specification. In fact, it
*could not* be added because the required semantics of EMBED (arbitrary
attributes) cannot be represented in an SGML application.

It says it's in HTML 3.2 but deprecated by HTML 4.0. I checked the 3.2 spec and it doesn't mention it all.
