This particular problem will be improving significantly over the next
few months. Dave Hyatt found a way to create a widget for the thread
pane that uses a lot less memory and requires a lot less processing than
the current tree widget, and the mailnews front-end is being rewritten
to take advantage of it. But you'd be better off posting in
n.p.m.mail-news. Followup-To: reset to there.
