Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are no details in the W3C's HTML spec
that define exactly how a textbox is suppose to look, as long as they
function as they are suppose to. This has nothing to do with standards
simply because one doesn't exact for textboxes.
David is right, HTML is a STRUCTURE formatting language, not a STYLING
language. You're asking for subtle style differences. CSS should be used
visually dress up and stylize the structure defined by the HTML. CSS can
be used to stylize textboxes, and other page widgets, but not sure about
the amount of control that you're asking for.
