That's some what true, It was at the Palto alto PARC researh center. The
thing is it wasn't patened at the time. And Apple decided to use a
system, "based on it at the time", Microsoft they thought idea was silly
and wasn't geeky enough. That people actually enjoyed the challenge
using command line of DOS and the exhilarating experience of the
possiblity of typing the INIT C:/ command at the wrong time and wiping
out the entire hard drive and starting completely over again. So it
passed over as fad.
Once the (thought) fad caught on Gates decide they should do something
similar so they came out with windows. Like Parc Apple at the time was
dumb enough to patent the system. So because of that and Apple not
having deep pockets, Microsoft won the lok and Feel suite tha was
brought by Apple.
So people that thank their lucky stars for Windows, or curse the very
idea it ever started, should direct their kudos, or curses to Parc and
Apple for the original idea.
