Indeed. When some of the textarea problems first appeared many moons
ago, I waited more than a month (maybe 2) for them to be fixed before I
would download a new nightly. The effects in the plain-text mail
composer made the whole product unusable for me. I'd rather not go
through that again, since I really like some other improvements in
recent builds. Mozilla does steadily improve in just about every other area.

Have any bugs been filed on the regressions?
