has anyone tried to build mozilla under win32 with one of the win32 GCC ports?

As opposed to using visual C++?
Other than the use of NMAKE, what other visual C++ only technologies 
does mozilla use?
Is there any reason why a "port" to gcc win32 wouldnt be possible?
