Hello,
I am puzzled by Mozilla's handling of "file:..." urls. I maintain a
site in my company's intranet (distributed via our Apache server.)
>From my pages, I'd like to link (with file:///... urls) to some
documents which are not distributed by the server, but reside in a
directory which is NFS-mounted on all machines of our local network
(including the machine the Apache server runs on.) While this
approach used to work with Netscape Navigator 4.xx, Mozilla just does
nothing if these links are clicked. From a local copy of my document
(i.e. one that has a file:... url itself), everything works fine. As
I just discovered, there is also a way to make the links work from the
original http:... document: Select "Properties" from the right-click
menu and follow the link in the popup window! This leaves me with the
following questions:
* Does the idea of using "file:..." links relative to a "http:..."
document make sense at all? (remember, I can assume that the files
exist on all machines from where my document can be accessed!)
* If it does, shouldn't this be supported consistently by Mozilla
(i.e., should I report the behaviour described above as a bug?)
Please put me on the right track.
TIA
