The problem is that N6 is not an update to Communicator 4.7.8 its
supposed a replacement for N6.

That would be fine if it was a finished product. But It is definitely not.

I can't even get quicktime 5 to work. so websites using sound or
graphics Quicktime can read fail because I can't setup quicktime.

Communicator when opening will poll the Plugins installed, and as new
ones are installed the approriate mime types decriptions, and such are
added into the Edit > preferences > Navigator > Applications
automatically. if you have more than one plugin that can handle the type
you could simply choose the desired plugin.

I'm smart but by golly I"m not smart enough to type in 60-80 different
mime types alone that quicktime can handle.

Actually they are different in that the version number is refered to in
the type code for example IE4 for version 4.X and IE5 for 5X versions.

When Mac applications are written they are assigned type and creator
codes. Creator codes have to do with the software manufacturer. Type
codes relate to versions and change with each major revision say from 5
to 5.5 revisions between say 5.1 and 5.4 are minor revisions and the
type code is not changed.

This allows the Mac say to use Netscape Navigator 3 for example and
Communicator 4 at the same time. opeing them at the same time.

But by Netscape not changing type code to 6 You cna't open both at the
same time and in fact doing so corrupts the preferences of both programs

N6 is supposed to be a major rewite not a replacement so there for
should have a different type code.

I think the original idea behind not changing it was that Plugin makers
would balk at having to change the plugins to accept a different type.
Well most plugins have been broken due to abandoning of "liveconnect".
So that arguement is no longer relavent.

Until they get the plugin situation/ Application menu setting squared
away I don't forsee doing any more than testing of MOz or N6. I can't do
anything and several newsgroups i frequent, and some websites i frequent
that make use of sounds simply don't work.
