Oh, you're saying that whatever bottom margin we apply to BODY on the first page collapses with the bottom page margin?
No.... What should happen, given a paragraph with margin of size 1em, say, in a columnated body is the following:
aaaa aaaa aaaa aaaa aaaa aaaa aaaa aaaa aaaa aaaa
If we have two paragraphs, we should have something like:
1111 1111 2222 1111 1111 2222 1111 2222 1111 2222 2222
In both cases, I would say that the layout should, ideally, not depend on the margin of the columnated body... I'm not sure whether that's feasible, though. In the case when the body has a bigger margin than the paragraph, I think margin collapsing makes this work right no matter whether the margins are left on the in-flows of the paragraph or not. When the body has a margin smaller than the paragraph (say it has a border so no border-collapsing occurs), if we don't put margins on the in-flows we'll get a layout more like:
1111 2222 1111 1111 2222 1111 2222 1111 2222 2222
(not dealing with the bottom margin of the last-in-flow of the second paragraph here, since I'm not quite sure what effect it would have).
But then, should the top margin of the first page's BODY collapse
> with the top page margin? I don't think so.
Why not? I would think it should....
