I think it's going to force the last 2222 line to be moved to the next
column.

Okay, I guess it could.

Summary:
1) An element's top margin is only applied to its first in flow.
2) An element's bottom margin is only applied to its last in flow.
3) The bottom margin of an element above and adjacent to a page or
column break is treated as zero.
4) The top margin of an element below and adjacent to a page or column
break is treated as zero.
5) Element margins may collapse with page margins (only relevant for
the document root element, given 3 and 4).
6) The margins of a columnated element may collapse with the margins of
its children (only relevant for the first or last chilldren, given 3
and 4).
