Assuming you're not just making idle conversation, then you're asking
for a separate non-modal download window so that you can carry on using
your mail in the meantime, where a mail download takes a long time.
That would be altogether more tricky. You'd have to catch a whole lot of
edge cases, like trying to forward/move/copy a message shown in your
Outbox which was no longer there because it had just been sent, updating
message counts in the Folder Properties dialog for your Inbox as the
messages came in, updating folder listings for folders other than the
Inbox when filters were applied, and so on.
