Threading and Sorting by date (subject, sender, etc) are completely
separate things. You are either threaded or not, AND you are sorted by
something.
The answer is probable that while threaded, you need to sort by
hierarchy. First you sort the top level messages by sender-ascending;
then you sor the secon levels by sender-ascending, etc.
sender 1 message
-sender 2 message
-sender 3 message
sender 2 message
-sender 5 message
-sender 6 message
