Thanks.  It took a bit of futzing about (deleting folders/accounts, 
recreating folders/accounts, copying files, &c), but it worked like a charm.

I'm assuming that I can, then, delete the old default mail folder 
(C:\WINDOWS\Application 
Data\Mozilla\Users50\[username]\[random-string].slt\Mail\mail) and just 
use the new default (C:\Program 
Files\mozilla.org\Mozilla\mail.identity.id3.useremail) in its stead? 
(Using Win 98 SE.)

BTW, my apologies for forgetting to indicate that I'm using a POP-3 
account and that my ISP doesn't allow old e-mail to be stored on their 
servers; a stupid over-sight on my part.
