I removed all Verizon entries in the password manager; closed then 
restarted Mozilla.  The saga starts again.  Each news group requires 
reentry of a userid/password as the connection to the server times out. 
    The content of the password manager is growing to include an entry 
for each news group just as before.  I think I'll just live with it.
