I do that. I've de-installed the T1 version and use it only
when I really need it. I even use newer and better versions of
these TTF fonts from Microsoft's site (including Verdana, Tahoma
and others, although I'm not sure it's legal enoguh).

Why I need T1 Times from time to time? Because they, unlike TTF
versions have proper italics for some cyrilic letters, because
Russian and Serbian cyrilic italic is not exactly the same and
MS-TTF does not know of these differences.

I have Corel Draw package here that includes a decent set of
"Win-compatible" as they call it TTF fonts (that are made with
the updated NLS), about 10 typefaces I think. I would use them
if I know how to create system-wide font aliases to map Times New
Roman to Duch and Arial/Helvetica to Swiss.
