Sorry, Wolfi, I *don't* understand why you are having problems.

For me a download (let's say of a .zip file) __WORKS__ all these ways:

 -  single_click on link
 -  shift, then click on link
 -  RMB on link, then choose "Save Link As..."
      (but *did* have to re-enter the destination directory)
 -  RMB on link, choose "Copy Link URL", then paste into Navigation
      Bar field of Mozilla and press <enter>

[I normally fetch .wpi files with a stand-alone FTP program.
 But I can download them fine in Mozilla with 'shift, then click'.]
