  ...for me  it's reproductible without any crash or so. Just shutdown and
  reboot. After that if \bin\component.reg and \bin\chrome\chrome.rdf
  are deleted the mail/news, IRC, ... entries are there until the next reboot.
  Those 2 files are identical before and after the entries disappear.
  The only altered file I've noticed is:
    \bin\chrome\overlayinfo\communicator\content\overlays.rdf
  which is replaced by binary 0s of the same size. Deleting that file
  does nothing, only deleting component.reg and chrome.rdf restore the
  missing task entries...
