I verified that the Browser will load the local file when I open the
file with it. The browser will play the sound at that time.
I feel that somehow it's syntax is incorrect.

Here's my setting:
user_pref("system.sound._moz_mailbeep", "file:///D:\\Sounds\\Gotmail.wav");

I do not know have a wave file on a http server that I can point to. :-(

Would you verify my syntax against your working version?
Is there anything else that needs to set in the prefs.js ?
Thanks.
