On my machine alt-space brings up the > application menu, the same as left mouse button clicking on the > mozilla icon on the top left of the application screen.
What Michael appears to be saying is that on OS/2 the "left mouse on icon" [application] menu will only open with alt+space if the there exists an icon, whereas on Windows you can hide the icon but still access the menu using alt+space or a context click on the title bar. -- Warning: May contain traces of nuts.
