Jim, I've been reading this thread, and, not worrying to much about it, but, today I decided to try what you are talking about. Here's what I tried: - Went to a page I knew I had bookmarked and pressed CTRL-D. A new bookmark was added to the end of the list of bookmarks. The original one was untouched. - Selected the bookmark and used the menus to copy it. Then I chose a bookmark folder, and used paste to put it there. A new bookmark was created. Neither the original, or the one I added above, was affected by this. - When I opened the properties of one of these bookmarks and changed it in some way, they were all changed. - I went back to the first page, and bookmarked it again with CTRL-D. I checked it was there on the end of list of new bookmarks. Then I tried to bookmark it again, and, it wasn't added. - The last test was to use the "File Bookmark". I selected a folder to put it in. Then I went to the bookmark manager and moved it from the bottom of the bookmarks in that folder, to the first. Then I closed the bookmarks, and did the "File Bookmark" to the same folder. When I looked at the bookmarks, there was one copy, at the bottom. Now, what I conclude from this, is: 1) Mozilla pays attention to the URLs in your bookmarks 2) Mozilla will only allow one bookmark for a URL in a folder. Any attempt to add another for the URL, will update the original. 3) If you have more than one bookmark for a URL (in different folders), modifying one in some way, will modify the other copies. None of this is the behaviour I expected, and, I can see an argument against it, but, I think it is good. Also, this has prompted me to create a "New Bookmarks" folder and set it as the "New Bookmark Folder". Much neater than adding them to the end of the main bookmarks. -- David Forrester davidfor at internode dot on dot net http://www.os2world.com/djfos2
