I think that's excessive. NN4 was released years ago for much older systems.

On what system? I'm using it on a 464MHz Celeron box with 128MB, and the 
only things bugging me are the "mark all read" and server manipulation 
and folder loading. The former can almost certainly wait until post-1.0, 
although the latter group of problems seems to be a frequent enough 
source of complaint to need some more work.

I think a low-risk-only policy from here on out would be fine for 
performance work. The time required for more significant improvements 
(like the 0.9 crash landings)  would take too long at this point. 
Exceptions can be made for key areas like the folder loading work and 
the precompiled JS startup work (is that one nearing completion?)
