I think that XPCOM standalone needs to be the only build mode, yes.  scc 
and brendan and I have discussed this before; it requires the string 
conversion stuff to be moved out of string/, but I think that's been 
scc's plan for a while.  The netwerk silliness in the file code has to 
go too, but then I think we're pretty much done.
