At least the one I toyed with at Mind (and I don't live in Turku
either, but that's the only place I've seen the deck live) had a hefty
set of adjustments. For example, the anti-skating ran all the way to 7
or 8! And the tonearm height adjustment also seemed to be a smarter
design than the Technics one. (Technics tonearm seems to sink down every
once in a while because the tonearm lock is shitty.)
I mean, all praises due for The Turntable, but it was designed a) in
1978 b) for listening, not DJ'ing. These new DJ-oriented decks are often
better in that sense. The thing that have to date made the 1200s stand
out among its rivals have been the sturdy construction and the high
torque drive (the fucking platter is in full rotation from zero after
1/4 of a turn when you press "Start"). Otherwise, there are better
turntables. But to my knowledge, no deck yet, even the most expensive of
the Vextaxes, has been better in this sense.
