[MP3 ENCODER] Making LAME multi-threaded

How feasable would it be to make LAME multi-threaded?

If this was done then it would also support multiple processors (assuming
the correct threads library was used) which would provide a significant
speed increase on multi-processor machines.

Just a thought. Any comments?
