Hi all,
Looking at the sampling rate options in FhG's MP3 plugin for Cool Edit Pro,
some odd sampling / bitrate choices are offered.
Bitrates: 18kbps, 20kbps
Sampling rates: 11025Hz, 12000Hz
According to the rate listings produced by LAME and my knowledge, none of
these are valid for MPEG 1 or 2. Some sort of FhG extension, or an oversight
in the LAME tables?
BTW, the overall quality of this plugin is disappointing - it produces high
frequency "twinkling" artifacts on a lot of material even at high bitrates
(I was testing mainly at 192kbps, where I would usually expect
transparency). However, they are faint, and may be a deliberate compromise
to gain quality somewhere else - I very much doubt the people at FhG didn't
detect them. The same problem afflicts the FhG codecs in MusicMatch and
Nero.
Whatever their reasons, MP3Enc 3.1 is still the best IMO.
