Hi all!
I've successfully "ported" LAME (including the libsndfile) to RISC OS.
I little work remains to be done in order to get the somewhat different
file and directory handling in RISC OS done properly. At least, LAME is
much faster than BladeEnc, even with BladeEnc (for RISC OS) using
Assembler routines and LAME doesn't (yet)! :-)
But now I've been wondering how to distribute it. Inside the 3.61beta
archive, I read in the LICENSE file:
> [...] you can include a compiled version of the LAME library (for
> example, lame.dll) with a commercial program.
That sound like I may distribute a compiled binary of LAME 3.61 for
RISC OS.
On the other hand I read:
> D. Provide a copy of LAME source, or a pointer where the LAME
> source can be obtained (such as www.sulaco.org/mp3)
Well, first, the source on www.sulaco.org/mp3 wouldn't be compilable
for RISC OS straight away, and second I read:
> 1. In your program, you cannot include any source code from LAME, with
> the exception of files whose only purpose is to describe the
> library interface (such as lame.h).
Reading further I find:
> 4. If you determine that distribution of LAME requires a patent
> license, you must obtain such license.
Well, for me - living in Germany - this is the end of the story, I
assume. Does that mean, the only way I'm allowed to distribute it is a
complete source patch to the official dist10 ISO demonstration source?
Thanks in advance for your clarifications. :-)
Greetings,
Stefan.
