Currently I never set a minimum bitrate when using VBR, and I
never found LAME using less than 112 kbps except at the beginning and the
end of some songs, and I haven't found any artifacts in such cases.

Joint stereo is supposed to be always better, but I found some
samples where LAME does wrong if I use JS+VBR, and does fine if I use
simple stereo instead.

If LAME (and FhG) switches to simple stereo by default at high
bitrates, I suppose that there's a reason. :)
