Right now, -f (fast) same as -q7 default same as -q5 -h same as -q2 What -q1 does will change from day to day and release to release, so please dont get in the habit of using this! Last week, -q1 turned on Takehiro's "scalefac_scale" code in the CVS version of LAME. scalefac_scale will allow lame to switch from using scalefactors in increments of 1.5db to 3db. Using 3db scalefactors will allow for a larger dynamic range, and allow for noise shaping closer to that suggested by the psycho acoustics. If the psycho acoustics are flawed (and they are) this can magnify errors. At 128kbs CBR, it has not been deteremend if using scalefac_scale improves quality or not.
