Hopefully Bill will tolerate a few posts here while we decide on the
details of future plans for MPIR on Windows.

My original development of a MSVC based build capability for GMP was
motivated by a number of personal uses that I had for this. This effort
evolved into MPIR and I have since continued to invest time and effort
into this because of its 'community' value even though my own personal
need for the capability has long since waned.

In consequence the only case for any continued development and
maintenance by me now depends on the desire in he community to have a
GMP equivalent that builds with native Windows tools (that is the
Microsoft and Intel compilers running on and targeting Windows).

My general view, judging on the emails that I get seeking advice, is
that there is still a demand for MPIR built with native Windows tools.

But, given that I will have to put continued effort into this, I would
like to hear the views of others here on the extent to which they
believe there is still a need for this.

Rest assured that I won't be offended by any answers that you might give
- I have no personal need or desire to keep investing in an MPIR (or
even GMP) build capability on Windows using native tools if there is no
longer a community need for this!

with my kind regards to all,
