I will go to the wall on keeping the Park Board independent and I have been
through a couple of the abolish the park board dialogues downtown and let
me tell you when it is time for the public debate the citizens come out in
droves - I believe that independence is pretty safe.
I am not talking because I myself am still sorting out the wheat from the
chafe in this power struggle. What I have been through the past twenty days
is a microcosm of November in Florida all over again - it really can make
one sick.
However, I did come across these two thoughts today which support Jack's
observations...
"If you do the job badly enough, sometimes you don't get asked to do it
again."
-Calvin and Hobbes
OR
Didn't one of those great baseball humorists Leo Durocher or Yogi Berra (or
was it a politician ) who simply stated: "throw the bums out."
There are six districts and three city wide at-large seats on the Park
Board. I encourage each and everyone of you to consider running for office
- try library , park or school board and board of estimate of taxation -
there's enough slots for the Neighborhood Agenda folks, Greens, and anyone
who has the stamina for long meetings - oftentimes with little action.
Come on down. I'm serious.
