I fully support the post by John Erwin to Minneapolis Issues. Five members of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board(MPRB),Bob Fine,Marie Hauser, Jon Olson,Walt Dziedzic, and Carol Kummer, took the most outrageous, disrespectful and shameful action that I have ever witnessed at last night's Park Board meeting. Just when I thought things on the Park Board couldn't possibly get worse....they did! I have tried for my 6 3/4 years on the Park Board to let the Public know that the biggest problem we have is that a majority of park bd. members are not interested in process, public input, informing the public or public discussion. Decisions are made outside of the public setting. The action last night to name an interim superintendent, who never applied, and ignoring the fact that four of the five original candidates had expressed interest in still being considered for the position is unconscionable. I believe these five commissioners have severely damaged the reputation of our entire system and have shown a complete lack of respect to these four candidatews we should have been considering. Can you help? you bet. Please begin to pay attention to what is happening,( I know that isn't easy as we get almost no press coverage and some try to hide what should be on the agendas),get others to take an interest. Come to board meetings and express your concerns for the record, write letters to the editor, put together petions and hound those 5. Most important, remember all 9 commissioners are up for election in 2005. Each voter in Minneapolis can cast four votes for park commissioners, one who represents the district where you live and three city wide. Help find good candidates who want to preserve, protect and maintain this fine system. Work to defeat the current majority and see that they aren't elected to ANY position. Four of us, Annie Young Rochelle Berry Graves, John Erwin and I want to serve you and be good stewards of our system. Thank you in advance for your interest and help. Vivian Mason, 4th District Park Commissioner [EMAIL PROTECTED]
