It always comes down to the haves and the have nots. It is no wonder the
conservatives get testy at the liberals. There are two things on this issue
I know. I personally have no problem reporting any amount of money I give
to a candidate. I am willing to be up and up and not hide from the wrath of
other candidates as some on this list seem willing to be. Secondly, it is
completely unfair to make those who give more report their donation and
those who give less hide in the shadows. To continue to say that a whole
bunch of $25.00 contributions are better than a single large giver is
exactly what continues to polarize our society. A big donor is not
necessarily bad and a small donor is not necessarily good. To assume such
is elitist. The contributions aren't different, other than how they are used
to buy influence.

As to what category to report, I think it only needs to be equal. I think
the current form wants to know address, phone number, spouse and place of
employment. That's enough for me. Perhaps Andy is right, if we can't find a
level playing field that doesn't discriminate, perhaps there should be
public financing.

More importantly is R.T.'s challenge. I'm still waiting to hear from Lisa
or the Mayor on this list if they are actually going to respond in a
positive way so we can clearly see the money trail and then get on to more
issues of the city. How about if we ask them to respond by Wednesday of
this week.
